{Ask Amy} Super Hero Party Ideas

I loved Wonder Woman when I was a little girl!  I used to have the "Under-Roos" and I thought they were my costume.  I even had a real Wonder Woman costume when I got a little older for trick-or-treating.  Recently a friend of mine asked for my help in throwing a Super Hero party for her daughter who is turning four.  She will be Wonder Woman!  So I threw together some inspiration and thought I would share it with you.

I love all of these ideas and there are so many really great ones out there!  I had to include the photo of this little Wonder Woman too!  What a great idea and this would make great invitations as well as a perfect touch to the party table decor!

And last but not least, the photo booth!  I love this super idea from Anders Ruff!  A few great photo props and this is so easy and what a fun way to capture a lasting memory of all of your guests.  Print photos from the photo booth and include them in your thank you notes for a personal touch.

Be sure to check out my Pinterest board to see all the vendor details and photography credits on all of these amazing photos, party ideas and even more that I didn't include here.  Happy planning!

{Ask Amy} Little Man Family Party Ideas

Recently I was asked for some fun ideas for a father/son birthday party with a Little Man theme!  I love this idea and after the recent hit of the mustache lollipops at my son's Super Mario party, I immediately began the hunt for a Mustache Bash!  I have seen several versions of this idea done before but thought I would draw some inspiration from all of them and more to share with you!

For the invitations, I love the idea of hiring a photographer to get a great family photo of you all!  Use the photo for your invite and frame a large one to add to your party decor!  Set a beautiful piece of stationary next to the framed photo with a pen and a sign asking all of your guests to leave birthday wishes to each of you on the paper.  After the party, mount the paper to the back of the frame for a special keepsake from your special day!

Ties & mustaches are a theme running throughout most of these ideas!  Necktie flaps on goodie bags in complimentary patterns and colors are a perfect way to send your guests home with goodies from a candy bar!  Or another fabulous idea is to create "my stache" jars to fill with colorful treats!  Mustache lollipops with party flags are another easy way to personalize your party!  Necktie cookies, bibs and birthday banners top it off.

And this super cute little man party with necktie t-shirts that create a banner and double as favors for the kids in fresh colors that are perfect for all ages!

And I love the inspiration provided by the above photos for food to serve at the party!  Grosgrain ribbon wrapped around toothpicks make a easy DIY topper to any food or dessert.  Any small foods will do the trick!  Finger foods for a little man make it easy to feed a crowd.

And last but not least, a photo booth ready with props for all ladies and gents!  Love this signage!  Be sure to check out my Pinterest board to see all vendor and photography credits, DIY tutorials, as well as link to all the sources so you can get started on your own 'Litlle Man' party!

{Ask Amy} "Where the Wild Things Are" Party Shirts

When my son turned 5, we had a "Where the Wild Things Are" themed birthday party!  Prior to the announcement that the movie was coming out, there were not a lot of options for party goods out there for this theme.

So we decided to have a "Wild Rumpus" through our local zoo!  We planned a scavenger hunt and I created passports for each child with the clues on each page.  The clues led us to all of my son's favorite animals throughout the zoo.  And each time we reached a new animal, each child got a stamp in the their passport booklet (of a wild thing of course!).  It was a really fun day!

We had 7 children with us and in an effort to keep up with everyone, I decided to make Wild Thing t-shirts for everyone which also doubled as a favor.  My son got a shirt with 'Max' on the front and the back said "King of the Wild Things"...I also spray painted a free crown from Burger King metallic gold for him to wear.

Each of his friends received a shirt with a 'Wild Thing' of the front and the back said "I'm A Wild Thing!"  The kids loved their shirts and I loved being able to see the group easily in our public zoo!

My most recent "Ask Amy" question was regarding how I made the shirts.  So I decided to create a FREE downloadable file for you to create your own shirts for your party!  Just click on the file below and print on iron-on transfer paper.   Cut out designs, follow directions to apply transfer and you are ready for a Wild Rumpus!

(Note:  I used dark t-shirts to create my son's shirts.  But honestly, it is a much more involved process to create these.  I highly recommend using white or light colored t-shirts for an easier and cleaner look!)

I would love to see your creative take on your shirts!  Share your photos on my facebook page and I will share them here!

Have fun!

{Ask Amy} Dancing Movie Themed Bat Mitzvah Ideas

Well, I have to be honest and say this particular "Ask Amy" request really threw me for a loop!  Having ideas and being able to illustrate them are two very different things!  But I am up for the challenge!  So my latest "Ask Amy" inquiry was for some ideas for a dancing movie themed bat mitzvah.  Sounds like fun!

Let's start with a few selections from the top ten dancing movie lists:

Singing in the Rain
Footloose
Dirty Dancing
Flash Dance
Saturday Night Fever
Save the Last Dance
Billy Elliot

And then,  I will add my own additions!

Chicago
West Side Story
All That Jazz
Moulin Rouge
Grease

One idea I came across was to create seating assignments based on the movie table each guest will sit at!  Adding movie posters to each table will help set the scene and let each guest know where to go.  If you don't want to use movie posters, a director's clipboard and film strip rolls are a great way to theme the centerpieces on each table.

Another great idea is to have a photo booth lined with "paparazzi" silhouettes and plenty of props...think  rhinestone shades, feather boas, flapper hats, and other articles that relate back to the movies.

And for the dessert bar & tables, try these Bedazzled Bon Bons in martini glasses like Chris Nease of Celebrations at Home created for her Black & White Holiday party! And how about Disco Ball Cupcakes ...so beautiful!

And  I love this idea for a cake!  Theme it with the movie posters that are represented at each table!  This cake is from Pink Cake Box!

A couple of other ideas I came across were to send out "movie ticket" invitations...love this idea!  And what dancing themed party is complete without Disco Balls?  These also make great centerpieces!

Add lots of draping, mirrored chandeliers, a movie trailer of scenes from the dancing movies playing in the background of the dance floor and of course the sound tracks from each movie selected!

I would love to see how your Bat Mitzvah comes together!  So be sure to post a link to your photo album here so we can all see how you pulled it off!
