Halloween Cupcakes & Cakes

Every Halloween, we throw a big party for all of our friends!  We used to do it Halloween night before trick-or-treating but the past couple of years, we switched it up and had our party a week before and made it a pumpkin carving party!  It is so much fun to create a spooky environment where everyone can make one big mess and cleanup is a cinch with lots of helpers (smile).

Part of the fun is in the planning of the party!  The food is always a big part of the evening and while I try to keep the food somewhat nutritious, there are always plenty of sweets and treats!  So I found these ideas to get inspired this year.

I love these mini-pumpkin cakes from Country Living!  I have never seen any quite so realistic and the dark chocolate is so striking!  To get the look of these single-serving pumpkin treats, trim the bottoms of cakes baked in mini Bundt pans to create a flat surface.  Join two cakes so that the fluted tops are at either end, then drizzle with Chocolate or Vanilla Glaze and sprinkle with coarse colored sugar or nonpareils before the glaze sets.  Top with a marzipan stem.  The dark chocolate cake with the bright orange icing is amazing!  And set it off on a black cakestand and you have the perfect addition to your dessert table.

Now on to these super cute Witches Cauldron cupcakes!  These would be great for a Wicked themed party or a Harry Potter themed party.  And of course they would be a perfect addition to any Halloween party too!  You could even add party flags to the licorice handles for extra embellishment.

And these Ghost Cupcakes are one of my all time favorite ideas!  I haven't had the courage to actually try it yet.  Although I bet Keisha from Cupcake Wishes & Birthday Dreams could whip these up!  She recently had a tutorial on using marshmallow cream cheese icing.

Marshmallow creme is the secret behind these ghosts. (Recipe from Better Homes & Gardens.)

Start with frosted store-bought or homemade cupcakes. Microwave 1 cup marshmallow creme (enough for 8 cupcakes) in a microwave-safe bowl on High for 20 seconds or until warm. Cool slightly. Place in a large heavy-duty resealable plastic bag; snip one corner and pipe a ghost shape onto each cupcake. Quickly attach chocolate chips or other small candies for ghost eyes and mouth before marshmallow creme sets.

And when you're done baking, don't forget to serve your treats up on some really cute Halloween party plates & napkins!

But if you aren't into making cupcakes yourself, check out Georgetown Cupcake. They will ship you a dozen cupcakes for $29! Look how cute these are.

Whether you choose to make your own or buy some cute Halloween cupcakes, have fun and let your kids get creative! You may be amazed by their creations. What are your favorite Halloween cupcake recipes? Comment and link to them below so we can all get inspired!

{Real Parties I've Styled} My Grandmother is 100 today!

My sweet grandmother turned 100 over the weekend!  So we all headed to see her and celebrate with 100 cupcakes.  My mom made mini cupcakes and served them up on a cute cake stand!  My grandmother had her 4 children & their spouses, 7 grandchildren and their spouses, & 6 of her great grandchildren all there to celebrate this special day!

My job was to make the cupcake toppers...all 200 of them to be exact!  I didn't know what I was going to create until an hour before we left to drive to my Aunt & Uncle's house.  I had purchased some paper straws from Hey Yo Yo...this really cute etsy shop...and the straws came with paper flags to print and attach. (They are so much fun!  You will see them again when I post about the Circus Carnival party we put on for my business partner's twin goddaughters...but I digress!)

Personalized Birthday Cupcake Toppers

Anyways, I loved the idea of a flag topper so I created one for my sweet grandmother and put my relatives to work the night before cutting and wrapping the toothpicks.  A tip:  I printed them on full sheet sticker sheets so all we had to do was cut, peel, & stick!

I thought they turned out really cute!  And I just loved seeing my grandmother's face on all of the toppers!  Everyone loved them...and you could easily do it with any picture!  So, if you are looking for the perfect personalized cupcake topper, let me know...I would be happy to make some for you!

UPDATE: MARCH 21, 2012  I have just added these to my Etsy shop

How about some bubbly in your cupcakes?

When my friend and award-winning pastry chef posted these, I just had to share them with you! Kristina Weems, owner of Konfections by Kristina, has created some of the best desserts I have ever tasted. Last October, Kristina baked 1000 cupcakes to give away duiring our 1 year celebration of my party business, Make It Mine Parties.

But her latest concoction is one I definitely want to try! This is a simply fantastic white cake (with bubbly in the batter) topped with a light and frothy champagne buttercream. You can tint either the cake or the buttercream to match any party theme, so Kristina tinted the cake pink for Valentine's Day. The hearts on the cake, as well as the nonpareils, are completely edible and match the Valentine's day theme.

This would be the perfect cake for a wedding/bridal shower, engagement party, or any other special event.

Don't worry if you aren't a baker or just simply don't have the time! Call Kristina for your next event. Contact Chef Kristina via email at chefkristina@bellsouth.net or visit her website at www.KonfectionsbyKristina.com and connect with her on Facebook!
